ALISO VIEJO -- A suspect who barricaded himself in a home for several hours has been removed from the residence with an apparent, self-inflicted fatal gunshot wound, according to Orange County Deputy Chief Michael Hillman.

SWAT members were deployed to a home at 8 Rue du Chateau shortly after midnight, after gunfire was heard, according to deputies.

The incident began with the suspect allegedly being involved in a hit-and-run involving one of his neighbors.

The suspect's car was located a short distance from the house where the gunfire was heard.

"We have evidence to believe that several rounds were fired outside the suspect's home," said Hillman.

Deputies found a handgun, a rifle and a semi-automatic weapon inside the suspect's home.

Residents in the area were evacuated while the standoff endured.
