Busy Day in Laguna
In case you hear of some of the things going on in town
today, I will give you the limited rundown that I have
thus far.
1) At 4:30
am, we assisted Border Patrol agents after another Panga
Boat came ashore at El Morro Beach. Sixteen people ran
from the boat, but all of them were caught within 30
minutes. Many were found hiding in the nearby bushes and
overgrowth. The boat was picked up by Harbor Patrol and
the Border Patrol took custody of the 16 immigrants.
2) At 12:34
pm, a deceased seven foot Dolphin washed ashore at
Shaw’s Cove.
3) At 1:10
pm, we received a call from Totuava Beach (in South
Laguna) about a diver in distress. The female caller
lives in a condo above the beach (Laguna Lido 31831
Pacific Coast Highway). She told the dispatchers that
she was watching two divers attempting to get into
shore, but they were being tossed around. One of them
was able to make it to the rocky coastline and dump all
his gear before jumping back in to rescue the other
diver. Unfortunately, when the other male diver was
brought ashore, he was already in full arrest. Police,
Fire, and Lifeguards all attempted to resuscitate the
man, but he was pronounced deceased at Mission Hospital.
As is our routine protocol in these diving accidents, we
took custody of the man’s gear in order to determine
whether or not it played a role in his death. At this
time, his name is not being released. He is described as
a 37 year old resident of Mission Viejo. (He was
transported to Mission Hospital via Mercy Air. The
helicopter landed nearby and picked him up.
