Ted Hayes, black activist and founder of Dome Village, as well as a proud
member of the Minuteman Project, spoke to the Laguna Beach city council
regarding its encouragement of illegal immigration through their support
of a day labor site. He spoke in public comments at the city council meeting
on Tuesday, August 1st.
Laguna Beach, one of the wealthiest communities in California uses the city's
charity assistance budget in order to finance a day labor hiring
center. They claim it is benefiting the city's residents by keeping the
workers off the street and offering "cheap labor" for the
residents and contractors who build multimillion dollar estates in the area.
The city funded day labor site has recently been discovered to be
"squatting" on California State owned land. When Caltrans, who
owns the property, ordered the operation to be removed the city of Laguna
Beach entered into an agreement with them to lease the land in order to
continue to run the day labor site on the property. The funds for the lease
will be at the expense of the local taxpayers.
Mr. Hayes spoke on how illegal immigration has caused displacement and
hardship on blacks and poor Americans, and asked the Laguna Beach city council
to use their community assistance funds for programs that benefit needy American
citizens.
Mr. Hayes was joined by Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minuteman Project as
well as several other members of the Minuteman Project and the Gilchrist
Angels.
