The CIA and Torture

In 2005 it began to become widely known (to the public) that the CIA routinely practices torture (or rather, outsources this to Syria, Egypt and other countries) and routinely abducts people and flies them around the world to be interrogated in torture centers. Here are some articles on this site relating to this:

Bush to CIA: 'Leave No Marks'

My wake-up call: Watch for another 9/11-WMD experience
False flag “terrorist” strikes could be orchestrated in the US. The Bush administration has already infiltrated some dissident groups and encouraged them to participate in terrorist talk, for which they were arrested. It is possible that the administration could provoke some groups to actual acts of violence.

FBI hunts homegrown al-Qaida leader
Ex-Floridian called one of most well-trained, intelligent, deadly operatives

Family home
A friend brings food to the Miramar house believed to be the last-known address of Adnan El’Shukri-Jumah. FBI agents searched the home in the 6000 block of Southwest W 27th Street on Thursday as they issued a nationwide alert to police departments to be on the lookout for the suspected terrorist. Agents have described El’Shukri-Jumah as the ultimate al-Qaida “sleeper agent”, intent on attacking the United States, possibly with weapons of mass destruction. His mother, Zuhrah Abdu Ahmed, insists her son is innocent.

These photos below were taken at Ground Zero, the World Trade Center site in New York, on September 13, 2001.

They were taken by someone named "Ed" who was allowed into the area by a member of the emergency response crew, at a time when all civilians -- including most journalists -- were forbidden to enter the area. As a result, these photos are just about the only close-ups ever taken of the World Trade Center site so soon after the 9/11 attacks.

SHAFTING AL-JAZEERA
We observe that this might yet be the final turning point for the US media -even those still supportive of the current administration. It's a thin line between killing foreign journalists and your own. Even western journos in IRAQ had the suspicion that they were receiving more than an accidental share of 'friendly fire'.

THE DECONSTRUCTION OF DICK CHENEY
His challenge to the many critics of the IRAQ war is rebounding on him. We trace some events in the story of how he led the administration into creating a disregard for the inconvenient truth - and how his words and deeds fall in to a pattern of deceit.

WHERE IS OSAMA?
The presidents of both Pakistan and AFGHANISTAN say he is not in their countries - so where can he be, and why has this JUST WAR dropped out of the news?

AZERBAIJAN: ANOTHER FRAUDULENT ELECTION
Describing what happened here, it is time we argue, that OSCE should decline (with maximum publicity) to attend elections where governments have no intention of having a fair election. Refusing to be a part of the charade makes it clear to all the world, including that nation's citizens, that the election is a fraud, rather than as now, giving the process even a thin veener of respectability.

Feds ramp up spying on journalists, other Americans

By DOUG THOMPSON | Capitol Hill Blue

Using powers granted under the USA Patriot Act, the Federal Bureau of Investigation has stepped up surveillance of journalists in an effort to plug leaks from a scandal-weary Bush administration. Wiretaps, intercepts of electronic communications and daily monitoring of reporters’ activities are part of a program authorized by Attorney General Alberto Gonzalesm, Justice Department sources say.

Pentagon Expanding Its Domestic Surveillance Activity
Fears of Post-9/11 Terrorism Spur Proposals for New Powers

By Walter Pincus | Washington Post Staff Writer
The Defense Department has expanded its programs aimed at gathering and analyzing intelligence within the United States, creating new agencies, adding personnel and seeking additional legal authority for domestic security activities in the post-9/11 world.
The moves have taken place on several fronts. The White House is considering expanding the power of a little-known Pentagon agency called the Counterintelligence Field Activity, or CIFA, which was created three years ago.

Your cell phone could bust you
BY SHAMUS TOOMEY | Chicago Sun-Times
The technology causing a stir is called "geofences," and here's how it might work:
A struggling salesman veers off his route and slinks into a bar. Within moments, his boss knows he's there.
The bartender didn't rat him out. It was his work-issued cell phone. By bringing it inside, the phone crossed a computer-generated "fence" drawn around the bar by the boss. A tracking chip in the phone triggered an e-mail that was sent back to the office: The salesman's drinking lunch again.
