John Gavin convicted and sentenced for trafficking in counterfeit Cisco goods
John Gavin a Laguna Beach business man who owns Shoreline Networks has been sentenced to six months in federal prison and fined $150,000 for trafficking in counterfeit Cisco products. John Gavin, 43, was sentenced on Wednesday by United States District Judge A. Howard Matz, who during the sentencing hearing said a prison sentence should help deter similar violations in the future by other defendants. Judge Matz also noted that Gavin continued to sell counterfeit products after having his products seized by customs officials and after responding to a cease and desist letter by Cisco regarding his sale of counterfeit Cisco products. The court ordered Gavin to surrender on January 12, 2009, to begin serving his prison sentence. The counterfeit Cisco products included computer networking equipment. This case is the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, and the Defense Criminal Investigative Service.
