March is a splendid month for Pacific Symphony music aficionados. On March 6, symphony supporters celebrate wine and music at the Pacific Coast Wine Festival at the Island Hotel in Newport with a lavish dinner accompanied by an array of fine collector wines.

For the past three years, Pacific Symphony Board members Mike Kerr and Valerie Van De Zilver have had the tongue in cheek ‘solemn’ task of tasting the marvelous selections that will be offered at the annual event. This year’s wine tasting will include such rare vintages Haut Brion, Mouton, Petrus, Harlan, Vega Sicilia, Cheval Blanc, Dumol, Hundred Acre, Kistler, Lafite Rothschild, Lewilling to name just a few.

At the event, expert sommeliers offer guests wine selections from elite vineyards from California’s Pacific Coast California to the world-renowned European vineyards.  A live and silent auction of unique luxuries and gift items creates the evening’s entertainment to raise funds for Pacific Symphony’s important artistic and educational outreach programs.

Proceeds that benefit educational and arts programs have increased with each year’s the gala event, with over $125,000 donated last year.

Only 300 guest tickets at $250 per person are available for Pacific Symphony’s most chic artistic and social event of the year.  Wise to contact Ricki Shab now at
rshab@pacificsymphony.org to reserve for this exclusive event.

Included in the Pops series March 11-13, enjoy a ‘Salute to John Williams ‘ with Pacific Symphony performing the most recognizable soundtracks of legendary composer who set the music to Hollywood’s most popular films.

Themes from ‘Star Wars,’ “E.T,’ ‘Indiana Jones’ ‘Harry Potter’ will be included in the evening’s tribute, conducted by Richard Kaufman.

March, 18-20, Clair St. James conducts theme music for “Gershwin and All that Jazz’ a bill that includes Gershwin’s  ‘Concerto in F,’ Ellington’s ‘King Solomon from the “Three Black Kings,”’ Bernstein’s  ‘Preludes, Fugues and Riffs,’ along with Ticheli’s ‘Blue Shades’ and Shostakovich’s ‘Dance 1 from Jazz Suite No. 2.’ Alain Lefevre on piano and baritone Kevin Deas contribute texture and depth to this monumental jazz tribute. It’s a thrill to experience the century’s jazz greats in one splendid evening.

Pacific Symphony brings light and delight to Orange County this March.  For detailed scheduling, visit the Pacific Symphony website,
