Passion, anger,
love, laughter and romance are all shaped by
Noël Coward�s wit and comic genius in
Private Lives,
which follows the sage of perpetually dueling
lovers Amanda and Elyot, two divorcees who
unwittingly book adjoining rooms while
honeymooning with their new spouses. They soon
realize the folly of their new marriages and
impulsively flee together to Paris, only to be
caught days later by their jilted spouses while
in a most uncompromising situation. This
stylish, savvy and still-timely comedy is loaded
with pointed barbs about modern romance and the
people we can't live with�or without.
Written in 1930, the
original London production of
Private Lives
starred Noël Coward, Gertrude Lawrence, Adrianne Allen
and Laurence Olivier. A Broadway production followed in
1931. The play has been revived six times on Broadway
(including a memorable 1983 production that starred
Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton), and has been
produced in theaters throughout the world.

The Laguna Journal's restaurant editor, Glori Fickling, has
been writing industry news and reviews for a wide variety of
newspapers and magazines since the mid-sixties, most recently on
line ocnow.com (terminated temporarily last month by Cox
Communications) and along the way, our own popular Laguna
Journal for which she has contributed features over the past ten
years. Early on she was a West Coast fashion editor for
internationally renowned Women's Wear Daily, fashion stylist for
a major department store, introduced fashion shows along the
South Coast, and designed her own line of maternity clothes
based on the A-line concept prior to its exploitation by fashion
icon, Yves St. Laurent. Her claim to fame, however she says, was
co-authoring with her late-great husband, Forrest Ellison "Skip'
Fickling, the eleven world famous Honey West mystery novels
which became an ABC TV series in 1965 continuing on to garner a
coveted Golden Globe, an Academy nomination and a Mystery
