Pacific Symphony schedules December spectacular
By Lydia E.
Ringwald

The
Pacific Symphony concert schedule this December
offers a diverse assortment of spectacular
‘Season’ performances for all audiences and ages
The month begins on December 10-12 with a
performance of Beethoven’s ‘Fifth Symphony,’
whose famous four opening notes have become the
memorable classic standard that has defined
symphonic composition over time.
Guest conductor Giancarlo Guerro leads Pacific
Symphony evenings of December 10- 12- in a
double bill that also includes award-winning
guitarist Sharon Isbin performing the enticing
dance rhythms of Rodrigo’s ‘Fantasy for a
Gentleman.’
For a delightfully edifying evening, creative
Renee and Henry Segerstrom music aficionados
enjoy Happy Hour at ‘Rouge,’ the chic restaurant
at the theater, and then attend concert preview
lecture with host Alan Chapman at 7 pm before
the concert begins at 8 pm.
On Saturday, December 12 at 10 am and 11:30,
Pacific Symphony and Festival Ballet Theater
present their collaborative production of a
children’s version of the perennial family
favorite, ‘Nutcracker for Kids.’
In a charming orchestrated dance performance,
Festival Ballet Theater’s premier ballet dancers
perform excerpts from the famous Tchaikovsky
classic in a choreography especially designed
for young children 5- 11.
The Fountain Valley based Festival Ballet and
the accompanying Southland Ballet Academy are
directed by Salwa Rizkalla, a former prima
ballerina who has dedicated over 20 years to
cultivating the ballet arts here in Orange
County. Students trained at Rizkalla’s Southland
Ballet Academy have launched successful careers
in dance by performing initially in Orange
County in Festival Ballet Theater productions.
The December 12 Saturday morning ‘Nutcracker for
Kids’ performances concludes with a grand
holiday audience sing-along with favorite
holiday carols.
On December 17 at 8 pm, members of the Osmond
family join Pacific Symphony and conductor Bob
Bernhardt for ‘An Osmond Family Christmas.’
Audiences are invited to join the Osmond
brothers and guest Soprano Christina Bouras
singing such uplifting Christmas favorites as ‘
Jingle Bells,’ “ The Most Wonderful Time of the
Year,’ ‘Through the Years,’ and ‘Happy
Holidays.’
On Sunday, December 13, at 3 pm a spectacular
performance of Handel’s ‘Messiah, ‘ considered
the most famous oratorio in the world highlights
the Segerstrom. This one-performance event,
conducted by William Lacey features Pacific
Chorale and renown soloist Christine Brandes,
mezzo-soprano Julie Boulianne, tenor Benjamin
Butterfield, baritone Timothy Mix to render a
performance of what is considered to be some of
the most beautiful and uplifting music ever
written.
Finally, on Tuesday, December 22, at 8 pm organ
