Authorities today are searching for a diver who went missing late Thursday while spear fishing in Laguna Beach.

The man was free-diving with a group of two other spear fishermen in the ocean near Aliso Creek when he disappeared.

His companions searched for him for about an hour before calling authorities at 6:38 p.m., said U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Christina Bozeman.

Law enforcement, U.S. Coast Guard officials and lifeguards started searching the ocean for the man last night and continued at daybreak by boat and helicopter.

Authorities did not provide the name or a description of the missing man
