By Michael Webster: Investigative Reporter Border Patrol agents from the Tucson sector so far in November of this year arrested 43 year old Jose Arceo-Vasquez, Manuel Sanchez, 41, Fernando Pech-Salazar, 39, David Morales-Castillo, 22, along with several others who’s names where not immediately released. The Feds Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) revealed Vasquez, a citizen of Mexico, had been convicted of accessory to murder in Los Angeles in 1988. It was also discovered that Vasquez was convicted in 1996 for being a felon in possession of a firearm and was found guilty of burglary and grand theft in just October of last year. Manuel Sanchez, 41, was apprehended by border patrol agents after he was caught driving a vehicle with more than 350 pounds of marijuana. When his information was entered into IAFIS, the system revealed Sanchez had been found guilty of burglary in Chandler in 1984 and was also convicted for kidnapping in Globe in 1993. A 37-year-old Mexican national whose name was not released was arrested in the same month and was processed in Naco, where IAFIS revealed he had two existing warrants out of Los Angeles for dangerous drugs. A 32-year-old man, also a Mexican national whose name was not released, was also detained this November. He was processed at the Border Patrol station in Nogales where agents discovered he was the main suspect in a Phoenix homicide investigation and may have Los Zetas connections. According to a media release, two additional individuals with extensive criminal histories were arrested in November. They are Fernando Pech-Salazar, 39, had been convicted in 1994 of lewd and lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age by force in California. He was also found guilty of re-entry of an aggravated felon in 2002. David Morales-Castillo, 22, was also taken into custody. IAFIS revealed he was found guilty of second-degree murder in 2005. The news release indicates all the named individuals are in custody pending prosecution and/or extradition. A border patrol agent who wants to remain nameless said, “He feels much better having this system to check on illegal alians who may have criminal records which enable us to detain them for possible persecution or deportation or at the very least keep them out of the county.” The Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS) is a good tool and we are always working on improving it, he said.
